People in an area of Sutton have spoken about the "tragic" death of a woman in her sixties who fell from her mobility scooter into the road. Nottinghamshire Police says the woman was riding along Alfreton Road, just before 11am on Friday (May 5), when she fell near the junction with Willowbridge Lane.
Police say she fell into the carriageway, leaving her with a head injury, and she died later that day after being taken to hospital. A police investigation is ongoing and people living in the area have been expressing their shock at the incident.
Joe Mantle, 39, who has lived on Alfreton Road, Sutton-in-Ashfield, for nine years, said: "It is tragic. I was actually at work when it happened, but I got a message from someone saying there was something going off down our end of the road.

"I came back and they had cordoned some of the road off, but it wasn't until the day after that I found out somebody had died and it was shocking to hear about it. This is a very busy, major road in Sutton, but I've never known anything like this before in my nine years here."
Another Alfreton Road resident, who did not want to be named, said: "I wasn't here when it happened, but it is very sad that someone lost their life. We don't know anything yet about what caused it, but the pavement [running up to the junction of Willowbridge Lane] is very narrow and I don't think you'd have much luck even getting a pushchair up there."
Dianne Carlin, 63, has lived on Willowbridge Lane for around six years. She said: "It's not nice at all and we don't actually know who it was that died, because it's not right to go asking around when it's somebody's life.
"I've not seen anything like this before while I've been here. We obviously don't know what happened, but I do know we get people driving like crazy down this lane and some people step right out of their gates onto the road, so it can be quite dangerous."
Detective Constable Adam Rigby, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: "This was a very sad incident that resulted in a woman's death. We are currently working to understand what happened so we can give her family the answers they need.
"We are asking any witnesses who have not yet spoken to us to come forward with information, and are particularly keen to speak with anyone who may have recorded dashcam footage at or near the scene." Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting incident 241 of May 5.
