Sadness as friendly West Bridgford cafe which only recently opened appears to close

Mystery surrounds the current closure of a neighbourhood cafe that opened earlier this year. Nice Pie in Compton Acres, West Bridgford, was amongst takeaways, a Tesco Express and charity shops in the shopping arcade off Wilford Lane.

While the current status of the cafe has not been confirmed to Nottinghamshire Live by owner, the business appears to not currently be open.

Some local resident shave spoken out about the location. One woman said: "There's been three different coffee shops. It keeps changing."

Before Nice Pie moved in the shop was previously the Stone Roasting House and Artisan Cafe and Compton Harbour. Before that it was a bridal shop.

Marcus Darwent, who most recently visited the cafe at the end of May for breakfast, said: "I thought it was a really nice cafe. The people were friendly and it was a good breakfast. It was perhaps a little bit expensive and it was quiet on the days that I went in. It is a shame if they have closed."

Writing about Nice Pie in his food blog, My Food Hunt, he said a Full English had cost him £11. But he added: "All things said this was to be one of the better breakfasts that I have eaten recently in Nottingham." Another person took to Facebook to say: "They seemed to be doing so well. Food was lovely, service was great too."

The shop was part of a family-run business which has a farm shop and tea room in Melton Mowbray and specialises in award-winning pies - some with unusual filling include squirrel and pigeon. "Some people see rabbits, pigeons and squirrels as serious pests, when actually they are delicious free range meals," they say on their website. Nottinghamshire Live has called Nice Pie for comment.
