Locals have expressed sadness after plans were proposed to knock down a garage to build apartments. The Vehicle Procurements Ltd garage on Westdale Lane in Mapperley would be turned into ten apartments under new proposals.
Ten apartments are planned for the site along with eight two-bedroom and two one-bedroom properties. There are also plans for 11 car parking spaces and ten cycle spaces. Vehicle Procurements Ltd still currently operates out of the site, with documents indicating that staff would be moved another site on Westdale Lane.
Locals said that they were saddened and concerned about the plans for the demolition. Jon Crawley, 68, who is retired and lives in Mapperley, said he would be sad to see the garage go if plans were approved. "I would be sorry to see it go, it has been here forever.

This area is mostly mid 20th housing so it wouldn't fit. "I think there are enough apartments already around here. I would think that it would be a pain, and it will probably just be a lump of concrete without any gardens or green space."
John Smith, 73, who is retired and lives on Cavendish Road, Mapperley, said: "It's not a good idea at all. It's going to affect surrounding roads and will be a very confined space that will create friction.
"There are a lot apartments going up and a lot of them are for one or two people. There's a school right across from it as well which is another concern when it comes to increasing traffic.

"I have used this garage when I had my old car, I bought three of them from here before it was taken over by the current people and I bought a new car."
Another Mapperley resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "It would be across from the school and the roads are bad enough as it is. It is always a busy road, the streets are awful in the morning - it is a main road really.
"The streets next to it are horrendous at school times and more cars and people will move that about. I don't think apartments really fit there, I feel quite aggrieved that they are even considering."

Planning documents, submitted on behalf of applicant Malcolm Ledger of Vehicles Procurements Ltd, said: "The scale, form and sitting of the proposed development is such, that the character and appearance of the area will not be harmed, and will enhance the current site and visual outlook.
"Pedestrian and vehicular access arrangement to the site do not compromise highway safety and parking provision is adequate with the scale and development proposed." Vehicle Procurements Ltd were contacted for comment for Nottinghamshire Live.
The planning application is pending consideration by Gedling Borough Council.
