Sadio Mane sent messages from Liverpool players past and present after AFCON win

Sadio Mane has been sent congratulatory messages from his Liverpool team-mates following his triumph at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Senegal claimed victory over Egypt in the final on Sunday evening, with Mane’s Reds team-mate Mohamed Salah on the losing side.

The final in Cameroon finished goalless after extra time, with Mane himself missing a penalty in the early moments of the contest.

Salah had a couple of opportunities to score, but Senegal restricted Egypt to very few clear chances.

With the match sent to a penalty shootout, it all came down to Mane with Senegal’s final spot-kick to win the tournament for his country.

Mane dispatched the penalty to win the trophy, with Salah not even being handed the chance to take his spot-kick.

After winning the tournament, Mane went over to Salah for a lengthy chat to offer his commiserations.

Mane and his Senegal team-mates celebrated, and the morning after the Reds forward posted a picture of himself with the trophy, while wearing his winners' medal, on Instagram.

The Liverpool No.10 posed in his bed alongside the trophy, accompanied with the caption: “Alhamdoulilah,” which translated to “Thank God” from Arabic.

Some of his Liverpool team-mates, past and present, commented on the post to send their messages of congratulations.

Club captain Jordan Henderson wrote: “Congratulations Sadio,” while Adrian and Virgil van Dijk posted a heart emoji and either a hand clapping or raised hands emoji.

Neco Williams posted several hand clapping emojis, while former Red Xherdan Shaqiri wrote: “Congrats my bro.”
