Sadio Mane's classy gesture as he ignored Liverpool celebrations to console Edouard Mendy

Sadio Mane showed his class to console compatriot Edouard Mendy as Liverpool came out on top against Chelsea in the FA Cup final.

Kostas Tsimikas was the hero as the Reds claimed a penalty shootout victory to lift the trophy, a repeat of the outcome in the Carabao Cup final in February. Mane had a chance to win it just before that, but his international teammate Mendy outfoxed the Senegalese winger to deny him from the spot.

It turned out the Chelsea keeper only delayed the inevitable, however, as Tsimikas saved Mane's blushes by stepping up and scoring the winning spot-kick shortly after. Mane, who has a reputation for being one of the good guys in football, didn't forget about his Senegal teammate as he consoled Mendy immediately after the shootout.

Mane ignored Liverpool's celebrations as they went wild after Tsimikas' winning penalty and instead approached Mendy to give him a hug in what would have been an agonising moment for the keeper.

Mane and Mendy have shared special moments together on the international scene after Senegal won the AFCON at the turn of the year as both players came up big in the penalty shootout against Egypt with Mane scoring the decisive spot-kick.

Jordan Henderson would later go over to console Mason Mount who had missed his penalty in the shootout. The Chelsea star was hunched over in disappointment following the defeat which meant he has now lost six finals at Wembley.

It was a classy gesture from both Mane and Henderson which clearly shows there is a lot of respect between both sides.

Will Liverpool win the quadruple this season? Let us know in the comment section below

Jurgen Klopp felt sorry for Chelsea after losing out on two cup finals to Liverpool, both in a penalty shootout. He reckons Thomas Tuchel's men deserved to be holding the trophy just as much as Liverpool did.

The German hailed his "mentality monsters" but reckons the Blues are built similarly. He said: "It was outstanding, it was an incredible, intense game against Chelsea – they would have deserved it [the win] exactly the same way, like in the Carabao Cup – that’s how small the margins are.

"Then in the penalty shootout, it was nerve-racking, my nails are gone but I really feel for Chelsea – for the second time, 120 minutes and you get nothing, that’s too hard. But for us, I'm pretty happy. We are mentality monsters but there were mentality monsters in blue as well – it was one penalty. Chelsea played outstanding but in the end there must be one winner and that was us today."
