Sadio Mane's 'childhood dream' comes to light as Liverpool star linked with summer exit

Sadio Mane 's dream destination has come to light amid links of a summer transfer to Bayern Munich.

The Liverpool star is yet to sign a new contract with the club and despite Mirror Football's understanding that there has been no contact between the two clubs regarding a move, fears remain that Mane's future is away from Anfield. While Mohamed Salah's contract saga continues to make headlines on Merseyside, Mane is another whose deal expires in June 2023.

After six seasons as a Red, the 30-year-old has been tipped to join Bayern, with the Bundesliga giants' interest prompting Liverpool to plan on reopening contract negotiations, according to Goal. Mane, however, believed to prefer a move elsewhere, boosting Barcelona's chances of signing him.

It has been reported that the Senegal star would like to feature in La Liga before hanging up his boots, with Barcelona and Real Madrid options which he would be open to. Mane would reportedly relish trying his hand in another country, keen to establish himself as the greatest African player of all time by enjoying success in Spain.

After talks with Mane were put on the back burner in order to focus on finishing the season strongly, the Reds will be keen to avoid any hiccups in negotiations and miss out on receiving a sizeable fee in the summer transfer window if an extension cannot be agreed.

The former Southampton star has been coy on his future, having been Klopp's first major signing at Anfield in 2016. Mane has since gone on to appear 265 times for Liverpool and score 118 goals, earning both the Premier League and Champions League winners' medals. Reds legend Jamie Carragher hopes that both he and Salah will extend their stays but admits "nothing lasts forever."

"You look at him [Salah] and Mane now in the Africa Cup of Nations final, two of the best attackers in world football, and the service they've given the club. Hopefully, we can get a few more years out of them," Carragher told the Liverpool Echo. "And I'm sure everyone in that dressing room now will be desperate for Mo Salah to sign a new contract as well as Sadio Mane and Bobby Firmino as well.

"These are legends of this club and we'll be talking about them in 20-30 years, that's how good they've been. But nothing lasts forever and that's why Liverpool have done such really good business with Luis Diaz because maybe, who knows, at the end of the season or the year after one of the front three will move on. They're at that age in football."
