Former Liverpool star Georginio Wijnaldum warned Sadio Mane not to take a penalty before the 2019 African Cup of Nations.
Mane missed two penalties in that year’s tournament as Senegal went on to lose 1-0 to Algeria in the final.
The Liverpool star also missed a spot kick in the opening minutes of this year’s showpiece, after Egypt’s Mohamed Abdelmonem brought down Salio Ciss.

Mane’s Anfield team-mate Mohamed Salah , appeared to advise Pharaohs goalkeeper Mohamed Abou Gabal which way to dive and his suggestion paid off as he made a stunning save.
When asked what advice he would give Mane before the 2019 tournament Wijnaldum told Sky Sports .
“Don’t take penalties.”
However, the 2022 final finished goalless after 90 minutes and extra time, meaning it was settled by spot kicks.
Mane atoned for his earlier miss by scoring the vital penalty that sealed the African Cup of Nations for Senegal as they won the shoot-out 4-2.
