Sadio Mane breaks Senegal goal record as Liverpool transfer rumours intensify

Sadio Mane did not let his uncertain Liverpool future stop him from becoming Senegal's all-time top scorer on Saturday night.

Mane's two first-half goals took him level with Henri Camara as the nations leading scorer with 31 goals. Heading into the fixture against Benin, the Liverpool forward was two behind the ex-Premier League striker. Camara reached his impressive tally in 99 games, Mane needing 10 less to match him.

After the break, Mane made history when his penalty, his second of the evening, which not only completed his hat-trick on the night but also took him clear of Camara's record - onto 32.

The goals came amid a backdrop of uncertainty after the 30-year-old dropped a major hint about his Reds future. With a year left on his contract, Mane has been rumoured to join German giants Bayern Munich in a summer transfer deal.

And prior to Senegal's weekend outing, Mane said that he would listen to what the people of his home nation wanted. "Like everyone else, I'm on social media and I see the comments," he said.

Mane added: "Isn't it between 60 to 70% of Senegalese want me to leave Liverpool? I will do what they want. We will see soon! The future will tell us."

The ECHO understands Liverpool won't listen to any offers below £40m, despite Mane now being inside the final 12 months of his contract, and a replacement will want to be sourced before the 30-year-old will be allowed to leave.
