Sad day for Dublin as tributes pour in for iconic Terenure butcher John Downey who passed away this week

Tributes have been pouring in for an iconic Dublin butcher who passed away this week.

John Downey from Downey's organic butchers in Terenure Road East supplied the residents with meats, foods, wines and wild game for nearly 40 years.

Downey's shop was one of the few places in Dublin you could purchase exotic meats such as kangaroo, ostrich and crocodile.

This alone made him one of Ireland's favourite suppliers among the restaurant and hotel trade.

One local remembered John's speciality saying: "I loved his spiced beef at Christmas. Rest in peace John."

Another resident added: "I will miss his turkey and ham at Christmas time RIP."

A third commented: "John was a gentleman. I remember his shop well. He had the best sausages in Terenure.
