Sabrina Ionescu, the star guard for the New York Liberty, has made headlines once again by joining Unrivaled as the final player for the 3-on-3 league's current season. This move comes after her recent success in helping the Liberty secure their first championship in franchise history.
On Monday, Ionescu signed a historic agreement to join the Phantom BC team, which had just acquired Natasha Cloud in a trade the previous Saturday. She will be playing alongside other talented players such as Brittney Griner, Marina Mabrey, Katie Lou Samuelson, and Satou Sabally, with whom she was teammates at Oregon.
Despite her recent achievements, Ionescu, who is 27 years old, is currently recovering from a procedure on her right thumb to stabilize the ulnar collateral ligament. She shared details about the procedure on social media, referring to it as a significant birthday present.
The injury to her thumb occurred during the WNBA Finals, although it was not publicly disclosed until after the Liberty emerged victorious in Game 5 against Minnesota. Despite struggling with her shooting in the final game, Ionescu contributed in other ways with eight assists and seven rebounds to help her team secure the championship.
It has indeed been a remarkable year for the former Oregon standout, as she not only achieved success on the court but also celebrated her marriage and earned an Olympic gold medal.
