South Australia's Environment Protection Authority boss has quit to take up a new role in Victoria.
After more than eight years in the job, Chief Executive Tony Circelli will leave to be the head of Recycling Victoria.
"Driving a more sustainable economy has long been a passion of mine and this new role is an exciting opportunity to drive new statutory, strategic planning and regulatory work in what will be a major transformation for Victoria," Mr Circelli said in a statement on Tuesday.
Recycling Victoria is the new regulatory agency for the state's waste and resource recovery sector and began formal operations in July this year.
Mr Circelli said he would leave the SA EPA proud of what it had achieved for the community and the environment, knowing it now held an envied national leadership reputation.
He said he was heartened by the steady change in attitude towards sustainability within the South Australian community and the moves by industries to seek more sustainable development outcomes.
The EPA's director of science and systems Keith Baldry will take over as acting chief executive.
