S Club 7 25 years on - homelessness, bankruptcy, romances and multiple operations

S Club 7 sent fans into a frenzy when they announced they were bringing it all back to celebrate their 25th anniversary. The seven-piece pop group were originally created by former Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller in 1998 and kept the pop charts alive until 2003 when they disbanded.

Rachel Stevens, Bradley McIntosh, Hannah Spearritt, Jo O’Meara, Jon Lee, Paul Cattermole and Tina Barrett did briefly come back together in 2014 to perform a medley of their best-known songs for the BBC Children In Need appeal but now, the band are officially back together - and hitting the road.

Their new UK and Ireland arena reunion tour will see all the original seven members back on stage together for the first time in nine years and fans will be hoping to hear all the hits including Reach, Don’t Stop Movin', and their debut Bring It All Back.

S Club 7 said in a statement: "After eight years it feels amazing to announce that we’re reuniting and performing together again. We're so excited to bring the S Club party back to our fans across the country to celebrate 25 years of S Club 7. We can't even believe it's been so long. Music and friendship have always been at the core of everything that we've ever done. We hope everyone can join us for one big party."

During their five years together they produced four studio albums with their debut, S Club, launching in 1999. They followed this up with the chart-topper 7 in 2000, Sunshine in 2001 and Seeing Double in 2002. The group also achieved number one status on a number of tracks including Never Had A Dream Come True and Have You Ever.

They also cemented their fame after starring in their own BBC TV series Miami 7 and LA 7. After the band disbanded, Bradley, Jo and Paul did later became members of the spin-off group S Club Allstars, previously S Club 3, with Tina joining them in 2014.

But what did they all get up to in the 20 years since they broke fans' hearts since announcing their split? We've had a look back at what happened to Rachel, Jo, Paul, Tina, Jon Lee, Bradley and Hannah.

Hannah Spearritt

Following the end of the band, Hannah turned her hand to acting. She had parts in the films Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London and horror movie Seed of Chucky. But her biggest role came as Abby Maitland in ITV's science-fiction series Primeval, playing the lead role for five series.

Hannah also got together with Primeval co-star Andrew-Lee Potts in 2008, three years after dating bandmate Paul for five years until 2005, but they broke up in 2013. She later met nutritionist Adam Thomas and were engaged. However, they split in 2015 before rekindling their relationship in 2018. The couple now have two kids together.

Back to her acting career, and as well as appearing in Casualty, Hannah landed the role of Kandice Taylor - the younger sister of established character Karen Taylor - in EastEnders in 2017.

But Hannah hit the headlines last month when she revealed she and her family had to move into an office over Christmas and New Year, after being left homeless after they were forced of their home by a landlord. She said at the time she had lived in four temporary homes in the last six months, adding "it was stressful, but you deal with it".

She told The Sun that she had come down with an illness that had left her bedbound, while her and her partner’s new cafe venture had also stalled. She also said public perception of her and fellow bandmates as "millionaires" was "just not true".

Paul Cattermole

Paul actually announced he was quitting the band back in 2002, a year before the rest of the group officially called it a day. After that, Paul reunited with some old school friends to form nu metal group Skua, but they split in 2003 after failing to sign a record deal.

Five years after S Club broke up, Paul started performing at nightclub, universities and holiday camps across the UK with Jo and Bradley as part of the previously mentioned S Club 3.

But things got increasingly difficult for Paul and in 2018, the now 45-year-old said on Loose Women that he run out of money and had to borrow a shirt for the show. He said at the time: "Last year, there's something that I can't really discuss that happened so it's a bit tricky. But I've had an injury, so that's what's happened in the last year that's made it very difficult."

A year later, Paul emerged back into the spotlight when he appeared on E4 dating show, First Dates Hotel. At the time, he revealed to the camera he "hadn't had a lot of luck with women" over the years, but was hoping to meet someone special who had a mutual interest in music and performing.

In January 2022, Paul revealed he had a new career as a psychic and has his own YouTube channel offering tarot card readings.

Rachel Stevens

Rachel was the main member of the band to go it alone a signed a reportedly six-figure solo record deal, before releasing hit single Sweet Dreams My LA Ex, as well as follow-up track More More More and Some Girls. She bagged seven top 40 singles, however, her solo career ended quite fast, following the release of her second album in 2005.

But Rachel hasn't shied away from the limelight, finishing second in Strictly Come Dancing in 2008 and appearing as a guest mentor on The X Factor in New Zealand in 2013. The singer also appeared on Celebrity Masterchef in 2017.

But the now 44-year-old ended up turning her hand to stage work and in 2019 joined the cast of the theatre show Rip It Up The 70s alongside gymnast and Strictly winner Louis Smith, Pussycat Doll Melody Thornton and Blue star Lee Ryan. Then last year, she took part in Dancing on Ice.

Ahead of appearing on the ITV skating show, Rachel, who was 19 when the band started, revealed to The Sun that she still has therapy to cope with her time in S Club 7. "I’ve spent a lot of time trying to learn to undo that. It’s something I have to work on every day. I still speak to a therapist. That really helps."

But one person who had been in her corner through it all was childhood sweetheart, Alex Bourne. The pair first met and dated when Rachel was just 12, but drifted apart during their teenage years and split, the Mirror reports. However, they rekindled their romance after meeting again several years later.

But before rekindling her romance with Alex, Rachel dated former Hollyoaks and Holby City star Jeremy Edwards. The pair got engaged after 18 months together when he popped the question on Valentine's Day 2002 at The Dorchester. However, the pair parted ways for good in 2004, with Jeremey previously telling Heat that Rachel got "caught up" in his "mess" after he turned to alcohol following the tragic death of his Holby co-star, Laura Sadler.

As for Rachel and Alex, the pair married in a lavish Jewish ceremony in 2009. In May 2010 the couple revealed they were expecting their first child, a girl named Amelie and daughter Minnie arrived four years later. But a month before celebrating their 13-year anniversary in 2022, Rachel announced they had spit.

She wrote on Instagram in July 2022: "I just wanted to share with you all that after time and consideration the difficult decision has been made for Alex and I to separate. While we are no longer partners in marriage, we will remain partners in parenthood to our beautiful girls and continue with love and respect for each other. I feel so incredibly grateful for the life we built together and will now continue to be focused on moving forward united as a family.'

Bradley McIntosh

Following the end of S Club 7, it appeared Bradley didn't want to end his pop group days and created his own boyband. The supergroup, named Upper Street, formed on MTV's Totally Boyband and included members from other disbanded groups such as 911, Steps and Another Level.

Unfortunately. their single The One, only reached number 35 in the UK charts. In 2008, the now 41-year-old launched a solo career under the name City Boy, releasing the single No Regret, and wrote and produced music for the likes of JLS and ex-Sugababe Mutya Buena. He also performed across the UK and Australia with S Club 3 since 2008.

Away from his own music career, Bradley is an entrepreneur runnings Citiboy Entertainment and is the director of a company called Yoghurt Media. But his biggest job is being a dad to his four-year-old son.

Jo O'Meara

Jo released her first solo single in September 2005, titled What Hurts the Most, which reached number 13 in the UK Singles Chart. She followed that with her album Relentless but it didn't quite set the charts alive.

She then joined Hollyoaks actor Chris Fountain in 2006 for their own shown Just the Two of Us, with the pair performing Never Had a Dream Come True. And it is then when Jo branched out into reality TV by appearing in Celebrity Big Brother in 2007. But the singer ended up being embroiled in a 'racist bullying' scandal towards fellow housemate Shilpa Shetty alongside Danielle Lloyd and the late Jade Goody.

Since then, Jo reunited with some of her bandmates for the previously mentioned S Club 3 and has also welcomed her son, named Lenny, with ex Bill Slater. She has also been open about her health struggles, fearing she'd never dance again. The singer, 43, shared last month how she woke up in December in so much pain that she felt like she had been shot.

She spent eight days at Queen’s Hospital in Romford, East London, where surgeons removed part of a disc in her back. Jo, who has had four operations on her back, has been left with permanent damage to her right leg and faces months of physio before she will be fit to be back on the stage.

Prior to her ill health, she released a second solo album, With Love in 2021, and had a busy schedule of solo concerts. She has also offered support to Eamonn Holmes who himself underwent back surgery last year in a bid to relieve him of the chronic pain he had been suffering with.

Lifting the lid on his interaction with the Don't Stop Movin' singer, former This Morning hos Eamonn told Mail Online: "She got in touch to say she had the same disc problems I did and had just had surgery with a German surgeon. I asked if she could pass on his details, because by now I was desperate." The pair have stayed in touch since with Eamonn's wife Ruth Langsford thanking Jo during an appearance on Loose Women last month while Eamonn and Jo also got a chance to meet up earlier this month.

Tina Barrett

After S Club 7 disbanded, Tina most notably joined Natasha Bedingfield and Atomic Kitten's Liz McClarnon as they formed the Girls of FHM and recorded their own version Rod Stewart hit Do Ya Think I'm Sexy which hit number 10 in the UK singles chart with the profits being donated to Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

In 2007, a second video was released of a cover version of the Divinyls song, I Touch Myself. After that, Tina disappeared for a while before releasing her debut solo single, Fire, in 2012, and followed it with Make Me Dance and All Fired Up. She then became part of S Club 3 with Jo and Bradley once Paul left.

She also ventured into musical theatre, starring in Beauty and the Beast in 2013 and playing the Wicked With in The Wizard of Oz the following year.

But things could have been very different for Tina as she was in the original version of another incredibly successful band, Mis-Teeq, with singer-turned-Britain's Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon and Sabrina Washington, but left to join S Club 7.

Away from the spotlight, the singer gave birth to her son Roman in 2016 and has still been making music, even releasing single Mwah Mwah in January 2020. Meanwhile, when the band's reunion was announced during a live episode of The One Show, fans were in meltdown of Tina's age. As Tina chatted about attending the recent BRIT Awards, fans were floored to realise that she's 46.

Jon Lee

After S Club, Jon, went back to his musical theatre roots and played Marius in Les Miserables among other roles including the part of Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys. He also voiced the part of Max, in the British Disney Channel cartoon series Famous 5: On the Case, and performed in a couple of pantos over the years.

He also released a debut solo album, titled Fallen Angel, in 2013 which featured a string of covers. Talking about why it took him 10 years to go back into music, Jon told Newsround: "It feels like the right time to do an album. Vocally I'm the strongest I've ever been."

In 2010 Jon, now 40, came out, telling Gay Times that he had come out to family and friends at a young age before adding: "It's never needed to be a huge change that I've had to tell everyone about." Like Paul,he attempted to find love on a reality show, appearing on Dinner Date in 2018.
