Rylan told 'it should have been you' amid news of huge new BBC soap role as he hints he's looking for love

Rylan Clark fans have told the star 'it should have been you' as he mocked up a version of his own movie poster just before it was revealed that he had landed a huge soap role. The BBC Radio 2 host took to Twitter with a picture of himself in an ad for the new Barbie movie.

A new trailer for the Warner Bros film, based on the Barbie fashion dolls by Mattel and starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, was released on Tuesday (April 4) as well as a series of posters featuring the different characters in front of the classic Barbie symbol. A running joke in the posters is that each Barbie or Ken actor is playing a version that has a unique profession.

However, Rylan switched his up and appeared to hint that he's looking for love, nearly two years after confirming his split from his husband Dan Neal. Using a promo image from his hosting gig on Strictly - It Takes Two, Rylan mocked up his own poster which read: "This Ken is looking for another Ken."

He then shared the snap on Twitter and simply wrote: "Obsessed." And fans were soon responding. Sutton922 replied: "Exactly like the Shavin’ Ken Doll I had when I was a kid! But thankfully you have better hair." @loubie23del said: "This made my day." @SHADESOFTAEMIN commented: "You should’ve been in the movie."

@Msulliv52350306 wrote: "It should have been you," before adding: "Ryan who?" referring to the film's leading star. @hollyoak_emily added: "Love this picture I’d definitely want to see this movie xx Don’t worry Rylan you will find someone who will love you for you xx Keep being yourself and you are a wonderful and beautiful person inside and out."

But while he hasn't landed a role in the Barbie movie, it has been announced that Rylan has landed a role in a long-running soap. While he won't be popping into the Rovers Return or the Queen Vic, the former X Factor star and Celebrity Big Brother winner will star in a special Eurovision Song Contest-themed episode of The Archers, the BBC has announced.

The Radio 4 soap will see the Eurovision commentator stop in at the fictional village of Ambridge on his way to Liverpool for the international music competition. It comes as he is among the star-studded line-up providing Eurovision commentary alongside radio DJ Scott Mills, while singer Alesha Dixon, comedian Graham Norton, Ted Lasso actress Hannah Waddingham and Ukrainian singer Julia Sanina present the event on the BBC.

Speaking about joining The Archers, in which he will judge the village’s Eurovision Variety Show and need rescuing from residents, Rylan said: "I’m looking forward to getting my wellies on and checking out what Eurovision excitement Ambridge’s residents have to offer as I pop into the iconic Archers. I’ve seen some drama throughout my time but nothing compares to what’s about to unfold in Ambridge."

Jeremy Howe, editor of The Archers, also added: "We’re delighted to have Rylan stop over in Ambridge for his Archers radio debut. It’s been a real treat welcoming him to the programme and it’s certainly brought Eurovision fever pitch to new heights."

Rylan said he is 'honoured' to be joining The Archers in a guest role (PA)

Fans are also thrilled after Rylan took to Instagram to confirm the exciting news. "Very honoured to be in The Archers," the 35-year-old typed alongside a snap of him in action. He added: "Thanks for having me x."

Reacting to the news, @liz.barker.946 said: "Rylan, Eurovision, The Archers. My life is complete." @lisag73uk commented: "I love The Archers - this is the guest appearance I didn't know I needed.
