Rylan Clark has opened up to fans on his concerns about his new project being a failure. The BBC Radio 2 presenter plans to release his first book in two weeks time, an autobiography called Ten.
It follows his life in the world of showbiz that stemmed from his appearance on X Factor in 2012, where he quickly became one of the most iconic contestants. However, on Friday, September 2, Rylan shared his frustrations with fans on Instagram after seeing who he'll be up against in the fight for a bestselling book, Manchester Evening News reports.
He looked unimpressed as he posted a selfie, saying "MEHHHHHHH". The picture also had a more detailed message as he explained: "Just seen a list of who's releasing their books the same time as me... We got not hope haha."
The 33-year-old continued: "So if you fancy helping a one time number 1 best selling author get to approx number 68 in the chart then you can pre order #RylanTen now for a bargain TENNER."
But fans were quick to reassure him. One fan @sophia_essex_makeup commented: "I’d rather read yours than any of the others. Stay positive you got this." @daisysdesignssuffolk said: "Rylan you are bl**dy fab, your book is gonna sell out."
He even had some fellow celebs sharing their kind words, with Eastenders legend Natalie Cassidy saying: "Babes there’s still a chance".
Still unsure of himself, Rylan looked for more inventive ways to direct people to preorder his book. He posted a series of Instagram stories sat in his Essex home, where he said: "So I'm just sitting here thinking about the book, thinking about all the blood sweat and tears. Then I thought f*** this I'm having a kebab."
A link for said kebab then appeared on the screen, as Rylan continued: "And then I thought I'll have Judy Dench on the telly."
He then followed that up with another brief video telling his followers that he'd joined adult site OnlyFans. He added: "Then I thought I'm going to start an OnlyFans."
He appeared to share the link for his OnlyFans site in the top corner of the story - but instead the link directed to Amazon where fans could pre-order his book in the run-up to its release. He went on to make several more videos with the links all going back to the online retailer.
Rylan revealed he was writing a book back in March, following a short break from work after his split from husband Dan Neal.
"TEN: The decade that changed my future. Wow. All the emotions," he said at the time. "This book celebrates ten years of me being in this crazy industry.
"We all know I should have lasted ten minutes, so how I’ve lasted ten years, I’ll never know. Learned so many lessons, especially in the last year but it’s been a journey, and I can’t wait to share it with you very soon. And if audiobooks are a bit of you, you can pre-order the audiobook which will be read by, yes – yours truly."
