Rylan Clark relied on advice from Katie Price who taught him how to cope with fame.
The TV presenter, who started his decade-long career after he stepped into the X Factor audition room, has had to deal with overnight success and recognition.
In his new book titled TEN, he opens up about his learnings and regrets from joining Katie's reality TV show - Signed by Katie Price.
Ryan, whose real name is Ross, starred on the show before The X Factor and said that he got "very close" with Katie.
Talking about the show, he wrote in his book: "To be honest, it was flawed from the start, but one thing I did get out of it was getting very close to Katie, who I got to know behind the scenes, and then there was Jordan."
He was inspired by how she had her real personality, and then her stage name - which she used throughout her days as a glamour model.
Rylan explained that he went to WH Smith and flicked through the 'R' section to try and pick a new name.
He eventually chose Rylan, which he took as his work name.
After he appeared on Katie's show, he made it to prime time TV but his Rylan persona became "public enemy number one".
"I only had myself to blame. I created him, I was the one who'd played along week in week out on national TV, trying to make something of myself."
He said that Katie was one of the first people that he turned to when dealing with the backlash.
"I rang her and she told me not to give a flying f*** and carry on being me. She said she'd created Jordan. I'd created me. Deal with it."
He said that she made him realise that it didn't matter what other people thought of him, the most important thing is that he can laugh at himself.
The This Morning presenter said that Ross and Rylan are the same person, and even when he's playing the character of Rylan - that's still him.
The book's synopsis reads: "Funny and outspoken, Rylan is one of the UK's most-loved presenters and a true household name.
