Rylan Clark raises eyebrows with cryptic post after Phillip Schofield quits ITV

Rylan Clark took to his social media to share a joyful selfie following Phillip Schofield 's announcement he was stepping down from ITV.

The 34-year-old posted the photo to his Instagram story where he held up a peace sign and smiled for the camera.

The snap came just hours after Phillip released a statement saying he would be quitting all of his ITV roles and admitting that he had an affair with a younger man while working at This Morning.

Following Phil's departure from the daytime show many fans have called on viewer favourite to make a comeback and front the show alongside Holly Willoughby.

Rylan then got fans talking when he revealed last week that he would be taking a break from hosting his Radio 2 show, saying: "This is where I should say ladies I won't be catching up with you next week.

"Because I am off to do some other bits and bobs so I'm not going to be here for a fair few weeks."

In a statement published by the Daily Mail on Friday, Phillip Schofield said he will not be presenting the British Soap Awards and he would be "resigning from ITV with immediate effect".

In the statement Phillip admitted to having an affair with a younger male colleague while he was with his wife of almost 30 years and apologised for lying to his colleagues about the relationship.

He said: "I did have a consensual on-off relationship with a younger male colleague at This Morning. Contrary to speculation, whilst I met the man when he was a teenager and was asked to help him to get into television, it was only after he started to work on the show that it became more than just a friendship. That relationship was unwise, but not illegal. It is now over.

"When I chose to come out I did so entirely for my own wellbeing. Nobody "forced" me out. Neither I nor anyone else, to my knowledge, has ever issued an injunction, super or otherwise, about my relationship with this colleague, he was never moved on or sacked by or because of me.

"In an effort to protect my ex-colleague I haven't been truthful about the relationship. But my recent, unrelated, departure from This Morning fuelled speculation and raised questions which have been impacting him, so for his sake it is important for me to be honest now.

"I am painfully conscious that I have lied to my employers at ITV, to my colleagues and friends, to my agents, to the media and therefore the public and most importantly of all to my family. I am so very, very sorry, as I am for having been unfaithful to my wife."
