Rylan Clark admits he thought his ex would 'understand' historic cheating confession

Rylan candidly discussed why he told his ex-husband he cheated on him during an emotional chat earlier today.

The much-loved presenter, 33, told Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary how he 'weirdly' expected his ex Dan Neal to 'understand' why he had to tell him he had cheated years ago, but his reaction last year was 'the exact opposite' and threw him.

Speaking on today's edition of This Morning, Rylan confessed how he feels 'more myself' these days than he did five years ago, and recalled how the breakdown of his marriage led to him being admitted to hospital as he was 'a threat to myself'.

In his new book, on sale now, the former X Factor star details how his split from Big Brother contestant Dan, 43, impacted not just his mental health, but his physical health too - admitting he suffered two heart failures amid the fall-out from the split.

Rylan and Dan tied the knot in 2015 but announced their separation in July last year - with the TV presenter now revealing in his latest memoir how their marriage was rocked by his historic cheating admissions.

After watching a clip of Rylan on The X Factor with Dermot in 2012, This Morning duo Dermot and Alison told the singer-turned-presenter how proud they are him.

Rylan then joked how watching old clips of himself 'makes him want to heave', before adding: "I've said for years, I used to always watch that judges houses moment once a year just to remind myself what it means to do be doing the job I do now."

As Alison remarked how Rylan has not changed since rising to fame, the Radio 2 presenter explained: "I feel more myself now than I did five years ago."

After joking money was the motivation behind penning a new memoir, Rylan got serious about the process of putting pen to paper and opening up about some tough times.

"Obviously I went through a divorce and break up midway through writing so the book became two things," he candidly admitted from the This Morning sofa.

Rylan went on to recall how his 'life fell apart' last year, when he told his ex Dan how he had cheated on him at the start of their relationship.

"Something was wrong and I couldn't work it out," Rylan explained when looking back on that moment.

He continued: "I had that gut feeling and it overtook my body. I told my ex how something happened years ago and told him.

"I expected [him to say] 'I understand' but it was the complete opposite and it threw me."

Rylan added: "I ended up being admitted somewhere as I was a threat to myself

"None of it mattered to me - my poor mum went through it all - but one day, knowledge and knowing I wasn't crazy snapped me out of it.

"But there was a reason I said what I said that morning."

Thankfully, Rylan is doing loads better these days - something This Morning viewers were pleased to hear.

Another added: "LOVING @Rylan on #ThisMorning - I’m sold, *adds book to Christmas list* p.s, definitely not an xfactor reject. To me, you’ve always come across as a kind soul with a great sense of humour."

"#thismorning @Rylan is just amazing," a third tweeted following Rylan opening up on the ITV show earlier today.
