Rylan celebrates 10 years since that X Factor audition and says he has 'no regrets'

Rylan reflected on how far he has come over the last decade on Saturday morning, as he celebrated the 10-year anniversary of his iconic X Factor audition on social media.

The popular presenter, 33, told his fans he had "no regrets" about his stint on the now defunct ITV show - sharing a collage of snaps of himself belting out a song on stage with blonde hair in an attempt to impress the judges.

Rylan auditioned for the ninth series of talent contest at The O2 Arena in London in front of Louis Walsh, Gary Barlow, Tulisa and guest judge Rita Ora back in 2012.

After the Radio 2 presenter performed a dance version of Des'ree's 'Kissing You', Take That singer Gary seemed unimpressed, telling a hopeful Rylan: "Rylan, love your personality, hate your voice, really strange song choice as well."

Despite Gary's negativity, the other three judges all sent the Essex native through to bootcamp, and the rest is history!

"Dunno how, dunno why, but today marks 10 years since that audition. Thanks for a decade to remember. No regrets x," Rylan captioned his anniversary snap to his 1.7million Twitter followers on Saturday.

"Fabulous darling," Pop Idol winner Michelle McManus wrote to the former singer, with a fan adding: "And I for one am so glad you did as a life without Rylan on the TV would be very dull."

Since first bursting into the spotlight as an aspiring singer back in 2012, Rylan has gone on to navigate a career for himself as one of the country's best-loved TV presenters.

Over the years, the star has hosted Strictly's It Takes Two, Big Brother's Bit on the Side, This Morning, Supermarket Sweep, Ready Steady Cook and the BBC 's You Are What You Wear - as well as hosting a popular weekend show on BBC Radio 2.

With such a glittering TV career, it would appear Rylan's singing days are well behind him.

But earlier this year, Rylan teased a return to the music scene.

"Rylan will not return to music but someone else might is all I'm going to say," he told the Mirror in January.

"There is a project that I'm working on that’s MINE.

"I’ve been working on it for about two years. It is mine, it is not one else’s - it is fully mine."

"It is, what could have been….That’s all I'm going to say.

"It’s what could have been," he mysteriously concluded with.

When pushed, Rylan denied any link with ITV show The Masked Singer - where many celebrities sing in disguise - but refused to give any more clues.

"Rylan will not return to music but someone else might is all I'm going to say," the multi-talented star concluded with in January.
