Ryder Cup in Ireland set to cost state €58m to host event

The state is expected to pay €58m to host the Ryder Cup in 2027 when the bi-annual golf event visits Limerick.

Adare Manor will host the match between Europe and the USA but the state is set to foot a large bill.

The plush golf resort has recently been renovated and has undergone a redesign with eyes of hosting the event.

And the Dail's public spending watchdog has been told the state will pay some €58m to host the event.

The Ryder Cup last came to Ireland in 2006 when Europe beat USA 18 1/2 - 9 1/2 and Katherine Licken said that the event was worth about €143m to the Irish economy at the time.

This year's match will take place in Rome then will return to the United States in Bethpage Black.
