Ryanair Spain update for all passengers with flights booked

Ryanair has issued an update for all passengers set to travel to or from Spain in the coming months.

On August 1, a new UK Foreign Office alert came into effect, which advises all travellers to the European country to "consult airlines" as flights may be disrupted. The advice comes amid a number of planned airline strikes.

The guidance reads: "Possible strike action may cause some disruption to flights to and from Spain. You should consult your airline for updates prior to travel."

It comes after some Ryanair staff are set to strike on dates across a huge five-month period. Two Ryanair cabin crew unions, Unión Sindical Obrera (USO) and Sitcpla, have called for a strike that will last five months running from August 8 through to January 7, 2023.

However, Ryanair has now said it expects no disruptions to its 3,000 daily flights in August or September as a result of the strikes. An airline spokesperson also said the walk-outs involve two minority cabin crew unions in Spain, while Ryanair has already concluded a labour agreement with the main Spanish cabin crew union (the CCOO).

The spokesperson continued: "In July alone Ryanair operated over 3,000 daily flights and carried a record 16.8m passengers – many of them to/from Spain. Ryanair expects that these latest threatened strikes, which involve only a handful of our Spanish cabin crew, will have zero impact on our Spanish flights or schedules in August or September.

"No flights were cancelled in July due to [industrial action]. The vast majority of Ryanair’s Spanish cabin crew are represented by the CCOO union who have already reached a labour agreement with Ryanair which covers most of our Spanish cabin crew.”
