Ryanair plane carrying holidaymakers back from Spain in 'near miss' with jet

A Ryanair plane flying back to from Spain was involved in a "near miss" with a private jet.

The plane had not long taken off from Palma Airport, heading back to Manchester, when the pilot found themselves just 100ft away from the other aircraft. The Ryanair Boeing 737-800 was forced to make a quick right hand turn, the MEN reports.

According to airspace rules, the minimum separation should be 1,000ft vertically, with a horizontal distance of between three and five miles. But there was just 100ft between the two before the quick thinking pilot was able to turn the plane and settled the aircraft.

The Ryanair plane was around 900ft up and travelling at around 150mph when the incident took place just before spotting the private Cirrus SF50. The airline has since confirmed an investigation has been launched.

A Ryanair spokesman said: " The crew of this flight from Palma to Manchester (28 May) took immediate action upon identifying a converging light-type aircraft and as a result, the aircraft remained well-clear and the flight continued safely to Manchester. The event remains under investigation and we are continuing to liaise with the respective Competent Authorities in support of the associated processes."

Both aircrafts continued to their destinations and landed safely.
