Ryanair pilots agree pay deal as airline adds 200 extra flights to ease travel chaos

Ryanair’s UK pilots have averted industrial action by accepting a deal to restore pre-Covid pay rates. Pilots' union Balpa agreed the deal which will reverse pay cuts imposed at the start of the pandemic.

A spokesperson for the pilots’ union Balpa said: “Following the intense negotiations Ryanair put forward a revised offer. Balpa members were balloted and voted to accept the offer.” More than 70 per cent of Ryanair's UK-based pilots are covered by the new agreement.

The announcement came as unions representing Ryanair cabin crew in Belgium, Portugal, France and Italy prepare to strike for between one and three days each later this week.

News of the deal came as Ryanair added more than 200 'rescue' flights from 19 UK airports to fill in for cancellations made by British Airways, easyJet and TUI. The extra services include flights from Birmingham to Lanzarote, Bristol to Ibiza, Manchester to Malta and Edinburgh to Gran Canaria.

Marketing director Dara Brady said: “Today we have added over 200 extra flights from/to our 19 UK airports to help the BA, easyJet and TUI customers who have been disrupted by these cancellations. UK families can now rest easy in the knowledge that Ryanair will fly them to/from their summer holiday destination to enjoy some well-deserved time off with friends and family.

"These low fare rescue flights are available now at Ryanair.com for travel until the end of September but must be booked by midnight Thursday (June 23)."
