Ryanair passengers panic as flights appear 'cancelled' amid major system failure

Ryanair passengers were left panicked yesterday (Thursday, April 14) after a problem with the airline's app appeared to show some flights as 'cancelled.' A system outage also meant passengers couldn't check-in or book flights.

Holidaymakers were left stressed when the reservations and online check-in systems became "temporarily inaccessible" from 12pm. Many reported that their trips were cancelled according to the Ryanair app, even though the flights were going ahead as planned.

The error caused widespread confusion among travellers, some of whom had already arrived at the airport only to discover that their flights were incorrectly listed as cancelled due to the system disruption. The company has since apologised for the problem and said it is working to solve the issue, reports the Mirror.

Customers encountering issues checking in online for flights on Thursday were advised they could do so free of charge at their departing airport. Passengers vented their fury online after the system went down ahead of the Easter weekend, one of the busiest times of the year for international travel.

@adamclancy1995 tweeted: "@Ryanair My flight from London to Stansted has been cancelled no flights available from all of london to ireland until may??? What is going on? #ryanair."

@isy_snap added: "A friend booked a new flight because your app was saying that their flight was cancelled. Can you guarantee her a refunded return journey because of an error on your app?"

@verolari wrote: "@Ryanair_ES @Ryanair just confirmed that the flight fr5052 indeed was not cancelled and its a bug on their system today."

Ryanair said in a statement: "Due to a reservations system failure today at approx. 12pm, our reservations system for April & our online check-in system are temporarily inaccessible. We are working with our reservations system provider, Navitaire, to restore these systems as soon as possible.

"Any passengers who have not already checked in online, may have difficulty doing so for the next couple of hours and they can check-in at the airport free of charge while we restore the Navitaire system.

"We apologise sincerely for any inconvenience suffered by passengers as a result of this brief disruption to April bookings & check-in. There is no disruption to bookings being made in May, June July or thereafter & all today’s flights are operating as scheduled."
