Ryanair passenger reveals 'hack that works' to get extra bag on flight for free

Ryanair is renowned for its cheap flights, but passengers are often unimpressed at the airline's hand luggage policy, which includes needing to pay if you want to bring a second bag in the cabin with you.

From using pillows to booking tricks, holidaymakers often go to great lengths to get around the airline's fees.

Now, one woman says she has found "the travel hack that works" when it comes to trying to get a free extra bag into the cabin.

TikTok user @missb_2 caught people's attention with the trick, as she shared a short video of herself demonstrating the sneaky tactic.

In the clip she can be seen getting up at an airport gate, presumably right before boarding. In the clip she is wearing a small backpack, which is within Ryanair's regulations.

She then covers up the backpack by simply putting a bulky coat on, that hides the shape of the bag, and then for good measure wears her bigger rucksack over that.

The trickster also has a pink wheelie suitcase with her, suggesting that she may already have paid an extra fee to bring a second bag on board with her.

"1 - me, 0 - Ryanair," she cheekily captioned the clip.

TikTok users were fans of the trick, with a few people claiming in the comments that they had tried it or had seen it work for others.

Some questioned whether airport security would stop you; however, airport security do not police your baggage allowance, because they serve the airport, and there are dozens of airlines each with their own rules and policies.

You'll still need to put all of your belongings in the security trays and follow airport security rules such as the 100ml liquid restriction.

The rule means all liquids in your hand luggage must be under 100ml and applies to all drinks, liquid or semi-liquid food like jams and soups, cosmetics and toiletries, pastes, gels and other solutions (although in some good news for Brits, this is set to be scrapped soon).

Under its current hand luggage rules, Ryanair lets you bring one small personal bag for free, such as a handbag, backpack or laptop bag, This can measure no more than 40x20x25cm.

If you want to bring a second bag, you can pay to add 'Priority & 2 Cabin bags' to your booking. This allows you to bring your small personal bag, as well as a 10kg wheelie bag measuring no more than 55x40x20cm. Alternatively you can also pay to add a 10kg check-in bag option to your booking.
