Ryanair launches flights from £19.99 as budget airline celebrates 20 years at Newcastle Airport

A local Irish dance troupe took to the runway at Newcastle Airport to mark 20 years of Irish budget airline Ryanair flying to and from Newcastle Airport.

The airline began flying from Newcastle to Dublin in January 2003, after the route was announced in December of the previous year. Since then, Ryanair has significantly expanded its services from the airport, opening a base there in 2022 and employing more than 100 staff, as well as adding 14 new destinations including Milan, Krakow and Riga.

To mark those 20 years, the budget operator has announced a seat sale to and from Newcastle, with prices starting at £19.99 for travellers who book before the end of January. In its 20 years at Newcastle Airport, Ryanair has seen more than 5 million passengers board its aeroplanes to and from the North East, with a further one million expected to use its services in 2023.

Leon McQuaid, director of aviation development at Newcastle International Airport, said: "What a great way to start 2023 by celebrating 20 years of partnership between Ryanair and Newcastle International Airport. This milestone and their recent investments including the addition of 14 new destinations to a total 21 destinations from Newcastle, demonstrates ongoing confidence in both the airport and region.

Dara Brady, Ryanair's director of digital and marketing, said: "Ryanair is delighted to celebrate 20 years of operations to/from Newcastle Airport. With such a vast selection of sunny hotspots and city break destinations to choose from, Newcastle holidaymakers can start booking their low fare summer holidays."
