Ryanair is selling flights for as little as £4.99 - but only for today

Ryanair is offering seats for as little as £4.99 in a major sale - but you'll need to be quick. The deals are only on offer until midnight tonight.

Some 300,000 discounted tickets are up for grabs for flights in May. The £4.99 deal includes one-way tickets to places such as Hungary, Italy and the Netherlands.

A total of 230 destinations are on offer overall. Flights depart from Stansted, Gatwick, Luton, Birmingham, Bournemouth, Bristol, Cardiff, Derry, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds Bradford, Liverpool, Manchester and Newcastle, reports the Mirror.

The sale is running at ryanair.com until 11.59pm today (Thursday). Earlier this month Ryanair was among the airlines issuing passport warnings to Brits looking to travel overseas.

An increasing number of countries are ending their Covid travel rules, while others are welcoming UK travellers with some entry rules still in place. While we've all been navigating the Covid admin for holidays, there's one key document that could be easy to overlook, but it's arguably the most important admin; your passport's validity.

Countries have their own rules on how long your passport needs to be valid for when you travel - some want three months after your departure date, others six. The impact of Brexit has seen changes to EU rules, with Brits warned by authorities to check their passports.

Airlines have their own differing rules too. Ryanair said non-EU passport holders must have a passport that's valid for at least three months from their date of departure when heading to a Schengen member country.

There are exemptions, for example if you've been issued a residence permit of a long-term visa. For travel outside of the European Economic Area (EEA), your passport must be valid for the period of intended stay, with a handful of exceptions:

  • For Jordan, the passport must be valid for six months beyond the period of the intended stay.
  • For Turkey, the passport must be valid for six months from the date of entry.
  • For Montenegro, the passport must be valid for at least three months.
  • For Bosnia and Herzegovina, the passport must be valid for at least three months.
