Ryanair and Jet2 warning to people with flights booked

Many UK travellers with flights booked with Ryanair and Jet2 are being warned to expect major delays.

Passengers travelling to France are likely to be impacted as a 12th day of protest action across several sectors, including transport, takes place on Thursday (April 13).

Unions across France have been in an ongoing battle against an increase in the legal retirement age from 62 to 64, as reported in Birmingham Live.

Flight cancellations and delays have not yet been announced, but in the past, French air traffic controllers have pre-emptively cancelled around 20 percent of domestic flights at certain French airports, such as Orly-Paris, Marseille-Provence, Bordeaux, and Nantes airports.

On previous strike days, public monuments, landmarks and museums - such as the Versailles Palace and Gardens and the Louvre museum - have closed meaning travellers should check where you plan to visit.

Eurostar has not announced any cancellations or disruptions to its services.

The Foreign Office on Tuesday (April 11) said "coordinated strike action" over France’s pension reforms could affect public transport networks on Thursday.

The FCDO said: "Trade unions have announced demonstrations and coordinated strike action on Thursday 13 April, affecting multiple sectors including transport networks.

"Industrial action may start the evening before the strike day and run for several days."

Several airlines have also flagged disruption from ongoing industrial action by French air traffic controllers

Ryanair said the threat of action by French ATCs would continue until May, adding that so far in 2023, its operations had been impacted by 32 days of strikes affecting 3,350 flights – mainly those overflying France.

Jet2.com has issued a similar pre-emptive warning, covering the period to 1 May. It said: "This means flights operating to or through French airspace may be delayed."
