RTE's Ryan Tubridy gives his verdict on predicted Late Late replacement Patrick Kielty

Outgoing Late Late Show host Ryan Tubridy has labelled the favourite to replace him as a "good egg."

With just three shows left, the 49-year-old Dublin native has been casting his eye on who is set to take over his seat, as Paddy Power suspend betting on the race after an 'explosion of bets' were placed on Patrick Kielty.

The Co Down comedian, who lit up TV screens in the 1990s, was described as a "good man, with a lovely wife" by Tubridy on his RTÉ Radio 1 show on Monday morning, The Sun reported.

Flicking through the morning papers, Tubridy said maybe it was time for another "PK" to take over, alluding to his predecessor Pat Kenny, who he took over from 14 years ago.

He described Kielty, who presents a BBC morning radio show as a "good egg all round," adding that he will "see where it all goes."

The Co Down comedian, now the clear favourite to take the top job, lives in the UK with his wife Cat Deeley, however, the couple hinted last week that a move to Ireland would be on the cards if Kielty were successful in becoming the next host of RTÉ's flagship Friday night talk programme.

Tubridy was in essence, repaying compliments paid to him by 52-year-old Kielty, who, at the Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTAs) said the Late Late Show was "one of the best shows on the planet."

He also stressed that whoever gets the role has "big shoes to fill" in replacing Tubridy, who is planning on writing more books and making documentaries, as well as hinting that he "won't be with RTÉ forever."

Tubridy, the highest paid broadcaster for the station, was previously linked with a move to roles in the BBC in the UK, however, he stated that his role as a father of two daughters trumps all for him.
