Ryan Tubridy could have been paid up to €10,000 while he has been removed from the airwaves by RTE.
The national broadcaster’s acting editor-in-chief, Adrian Lynch, confirmed to the PAC on Thursday his contract ran out at the end of May.
He said that negotiations on a new one have now been suspended following the breaking of the news about Mr Tubridy’s secret payments.
Mr Lynch added that the star was taken off the air for editorial reasons by him, but he added that he is still getting paid on a ”verbal” basis.

Mr Tubridy’s last contract was worth half a million a year, so if he is still getting paid under this basis, it would put his remuneration for the week he’s been off in the region of €10,000.
RTE’s director of legal affairs, Paula Mullooly, said: “There is no written contract in place at the moment. I personally don’t know if there’s been an agreement in terms of his appearances on radio until such time as a new contract is arranged.
“From a legal point of view, there is no new contract in place. So there may be an oral agreement as to what he is being paid.”
