To a generation of Ayr United fans, Ryan Stevenson will remain one of the finest players to pull on a black and white shirt.
The mercurial talent enjoyed four spells as an Honest Man during a career which also took in the likes of Ipswich and Hearts.
But it was always at Somerset, where Stevo had grown up a United supporter, that the bond was strongest.
As he prepares to return this Friday night for a special evening reflecting on his career, the player-turned-manager confesses nothing would give him greater joy than seeing Ayr hit the Premier League heights.
And he reckons now may just be the time for the stars to align.
Stevo told the Ayrshire Post: "Much is made of what's happening at Somerset off the park just now. And of course that is vital, regardless of what size of club you are.
"But you also need to get it right on the park and the real signs are there that Lee Bullen and his staff are on to something.
"I've always maintained that there's no reason the likes of St Mirren, Livingston and Kilmarnock should be up in the Premier League without Ayr.
"Ask anyone who knows what this club has to offer and they'll tell you the same."
Stevo became synoymous with his boyhood club after a loan move from St Johnstone in 2006 was eventually turned permanent.
He recalls: "The two Roberts (Connor and Reilly) played a massive part in my career. They took me at a time when I was probably in danger of drifting at St Johnstone.
"I would have done okay without setting the world alight there, but coming to Ayr was the making of me. It gave me a stage and I loved every second of it."
Stevenson wrote himself into United folklore by scoring the goal that won promotion at Airdrie in the First Division play-off final of 2009.
And a string of other stunning strikes - including that famous mazy run and finish against Alloa - are still replayed and remembered by fans to this day.
"That team was special and we have all remained firm friends to this day," he smiles.
"We have a Whatsapp group and try to meet up at least once a year - the memories we made together will last a lifetime.
"As a club it was a fantastic place to be around. We were really tight knit and I can count the likes of the gaffer (Brian Reid) and chairman (Lachlan Cameron) as friends for life.
"I've now got Mark Roberts as my assistant manager at Glenafton and having someone like that who I can trust has been invaluable."
Stevo, 38, added: "I'd love nothing more than to see Ayr get up where they belong. Can they do it? I don't see why not.
"There will be bumps in the road and with success will come interest in the top players and manager.
"But the infrastructure is clearly there now. That's not to criticise what went before with the previous chairman, because he was an incredible guy who put his heart into that club and he knows how much I love him.
"Sometimes it just needs a fresh look at things and obviously the mood around the club and community as a whole now is really moving in the right direction, so long may that continue."
