Ryan Sessegnon explains Antonio Conte's Tottenham impact after unbeaten Premier League start

After managing to secure Champions League football last season, Antonio Conte has continued his positive start as Tottenham manager, with an unbeaten start to his side's Premier League season so far.

His side have secured 17 points from a possible 21 in their opening fixtures of the season and went into the international break off the back of a 6-2 win over Leicester. This performance demonstrated the progress made, with a resounding win against a team who were considered competitors for European football until recently.

New signings Richarlison, Ivan Perisic and Rodrigo Bentancur have also impressed to give the side a whole new dimension in the year since the Italian took over. As it nears the anniversary of his arrival nearly 11 months ago, Spurs left-back Ryan Sessegnon has revealed the changes made by the Italian to transform the club, as well as his own career.

The former Fulham player looked like a forgotten man at times following his move in 2019 and had a mixed loan spell with Hoffenheim, but has found a role under Conte. He started the season as first choice before being usurped by Ivan Perisic, but the 22-year-old appears content with his role.

Sessegnon spoke to TalkSport this week, revealing the changes made by Conte and his staff in changing the fortunes of the club. He said: “He gives me confidence. The way he wants me to play, it suits me very well and he’s changed the mentality inside of me.

“It all started from a physical point of view, in terms of feeling good in my body and then giving me the platform to go out and prove to him that I can play at this level.

“I knew coming into a new season it was going to be the first time the gaffer could really set out his team I knew I had to go away and get my body right, and I knew it was going to be a gruelling pre-season when we went to South Korea and my body got through that thankfully and it’s been a good start to the season.

“Double sessions every day with my fitness guy, we start around 7:30 for the first sessions and around 3:30 for the second sessions so it’s long days, not much rest, but it’s paid off, so far so I’m happy with that.
