Ryan Reynolds has sent a message to Manchester United after being at Wembley to watch their FA Cup final loss.
The Red Devils were beaten 2-1 by Manchester City on Saturday as their local rivals completed the second part of a potential historic treble. Ilkay Gundogan scored both goals for City, with Bruno Fernandes netting what proved to be a consolation from the penalty spot.
Manchester United ended the season winning one trophy with the Carabao Cup, having missed out on the chance to make it a cup double. That followed on from a third place finish in the Premier League and qualification for next season’s Champions League.
Reynolds was in attendance at Wembley Stadium to watch Manchester City beat Manchester United. He was at Wembley with Wrexham able to claim some FA Cup bragging rights by providing the top goalscorer in this year's competiton.
Reynolds was alongside striker Paul Mullin, who collected his accolade after scoring nine goals in the Cup. He helped Wrexham reach the fourth round before being beaten in a replay against Sheffield United.
In a post on Twitter after the full-time whistle, Wrexham co-owner Reynolds sent a message to the Red Devils, thanking them for providing his hospitality and looking ahead to their pre-season friendly in America this summer.
“Thank you Man United for the hospitality at the FA Cup Final,” wrote Reynolds. “See you in San Diego July 26th.”
The two clubs are due to meet in a pre-season friendly this July. Both clubs will make the trip to the United States for the friendly fixture at the Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California.
Wrexham’s friendly against Man United will be part of their pre-season schedule ahead of a return to the Football League. Wrexham won the National League title to secure promotion to League Two for the first time in 15 years.
Reynolds has now been at Wembley Stadium twice this season, after being in attendance for the National League Playoff final between Notts County and Chesterfield Town. Notts won the game on a penalties shootout, after the game finished 2-2 after extra time.
Man United football director John Murtagh spoke about the friendly between the Red Devils and Wrexham. When the fixture was officially announced at the end of March, Murtagh explained why giving US fans the chance to see the players was a major incentive behind the arrangement.
Murtagh said: “Pre-season tours are always a great occasion to give opportunities for our most promising young academy players to gain valuable experience in the first-team environment, and this match against Wrexham is a great example of that.
“Manchester United has a history of nurturing and promoting youth and this is a chance for not only Erik but also our US supporters to assess the homegrown talent that is developing within our academy, and hopefully to be able to say, 'I saw him here first' if some of those players go on to establish themselves as first-team regulars.”
