Ryan Reynolds has revealed that he hid a reference to Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Arkin Deadpool 2.
The actor played the wisecracking anti-hero Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool, in the 2016 film Deadpool as well as its 2018 follow-up.
Both films were praised for their dense deployment of pop culture references, with Reynolds’s character frequently breaking the “fourth wall” to quip to the audience.
On Instagram, Reynolds posted a series of shots from Deadpool 2, including one which sees his character fleeing from a gang of henchmen while shouting at Dopinder (Karan Soni) to start his car.
As the Green Lantern star pointed out, that sequence was a reference to the famous scene near the beginning of the first Indiana Jones film, when Dr Jones (Harrison Ford) flees a mob of Hovito warriors.
Last year, Reynolds confirmed that he had agreed to star in a third Deadpool movie, telling Live with Kelly and Ryan: “We’re working on it right now with the whole team.”
However, reports since then have cast doubt over the future of the production, with Deadpool star Morena Baccarin telling Entertainment Weekly: “I have no idea – apparently, they’re still writing it.
“I genuinely don’t know”, she added. ”I have not been asked, or approached.”
Some fans have speculated that the character could also be introduced into Marvel’s Cinematic Universe crossover franchise after Fox, the company that produced the first two Deadpool films, was acquired by Disney, which owns Marvel.
