Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney joke about asking King Charles about Harry and Meghan

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney met King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla this week, joking that they would be sure to avoid bringing up certain topics of conversation.

It comes as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ’s bombshell Netflix series was released on Thursday December 8, the day before the American and Canadian actors met the monarch and his wife.

They visited Ryan and Rob at Wrexham AFC’s Racecourse Ground, home to the football club they purchased in 2020.

Ahead of the meeting, the media asked Ryan and Rob if they would be bringing up the controversial documentary to the royals, with the pair deciding to play dumb in response.

Rob, 45, said: “I’ve never heard of it”, with Ryan, 46, adding, “I’ve not seen it.”

During the documentary series, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said they believe stories had been planted in the press during the lead up to their wedding in 2018.

They also were allegedly told that incoming members of the family being subjected to backlash is a “rite of passage”.

In the three episodes that were released, they touched on various other difficulties they have faced after going public with their relationship.

On speaking about the documentary making waves in the UK, Ryan said: “As a Canadian, and I’m sure Rob will speak as an American, we are not steeped in the culture as one would be growing up in the UK.”

The pair then revealed they had taken etiquette lessons before meeting King Charles III, with Ryan adding he was “impossibly excited” to meet the monarch.

He said: “Rob and I both said early on, and this holds true for the rest of our lives, we will do anything to uplift this community and this club and having the King pay a visit is certainly one way to do it, that’s for sure.”

Rob and Ryan took full control of Wrexham AFC in February 2021, after announcing their intentions to purchase the club in 2020.

Since purchasing the club from Supporters Trust for £2million, they’ve taken part in a documentary, Welcome To Wrexham, about the club’s takeover, which includes behind-the-scene footage and access.
