Ryan Reynolds admits unusual post-match ritual Blake Lively and daughters make him do

Creating your own matchday ritual is part of what makes so many of our journeys with sport so special, and it seems Ryan Reynolds is no different.

The Wrexham co-owner, 46, has ensured his family - Hollywood actress wife Blake Lively and their four children - have been part of the journey since he teamed up with It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia actor Rob McElhenney to buy the Welsh club in November 2020. This season, the pair have overseen a double promotion, a return to the EFL for the men for the first time in 15 years and a surge into the top domestic league for the women's side.

But when Reynolds' family can't make it to the Racecourse, it turns out there's a post-match ritual they insist on. It turns out that one of the Canadian actor and businessman's niche habits is stealing a little piece of the playing surface after every home game.

Speaking to the RobRyanRed - Wrexham AFC podcast, Reynolds said: "Blake and the girls are the engine for this. The girls always remind me 'Dad, grab some of the pitch when you walk across it again', but I also recognise that the Racecourse Ground is in certain senses a holy ground. So I like to bring a piece of that home every time. I don't think I'm building a man cave at this point, a Wrexham man cave, at this point it's just my house. That stuff is going wherever I am, Wrexham is one of the prides of my life."

Quite what they will be doing with the Racecourse blades of grass remains to be seen, but it seems Wrexham (and a little piece of it) is well and truly close to Reynolds' heart - metaphorically and literally.
