Ryan Porteous reveals tough Hibs love from Lee Johnson as defender avoids Scotland 'comedown'

Ryan Porteous says some stern words from boss Lee Johnson helped him contribute to another big Hibs win.

A week to remember for the Easter Road academy graduate - where he made a fantastic debut for Scotland - was capped off with a goal during a 2-0 Premiership success against Ross County. He put an effort into the net before Martin Boyle grabbed the winner to make it three consecutive wins for Johnson's team ahead of hosting Motherwell next Saturday.

Porteous says his manager was not keen for him to drop his levels after a whirlwind week and instead insisted he remembered how he got to make his national team bow in the first place, telling Hibs TV : “You’ll probably not get weeks as good as that in your career. It was obviously good to get away with Scotland earlier in the week but as soon I got back my sole focus was on the game.

“The manager was quite hard on me and told me that there couldn’t be a comedown or lapse in concentration. He helped get my mind solely focussed on this game.

"This is my bread and butter. We did the hard part in the first half. We dominated the game, Ross County did have some chances in the first half but we dug in.

"We defended well and then our quality showed in the final third. Ross County did play well but to be honest I think 2-0 probably flatters them a little bit."
