Ryan Porteous could be Rangers' very own Scott Brown according to former Light Blues player Alan Hutton.
The Ibrox hero believes the Hibernian stopper could be a 'good addition' for his former side after likening his 'nightmare' qualities to former arch rival Brown who Hutton faced in intense derby clashes. The former Scotland international went on to become a Hoops legend, chalking up 10 titles for the green and white half of the city, after making the move from Easter Road to Glasgow.
Porteous has been linked with a shock move to the blue half of Glasgow in recent weeks. The Leith favourite revealed he wasn't going to pen a new contract, with speculation rife that a move to Govan could be on the cards. And Hutton has lauded his 'outstanding' Ibrox display after the World Cup break. The towering defender, started in midfield, and opened the scoring with a bullet header in Michael Beale's first game in charge.
Asked if Porteous would fid the mould at Ibrox by Football Insider, Hutton replied, "I think he would be.
“He reminds me of Scott Brown when I played against him. To play against he was a nightmare but to have in your team was brilliant. Porteous seems the same kind of type.
“I was at Ibrox to watch the game against Hibs and I thought he was outstanding. It is probably an area where Rangers have struggled this season.
“So to bring someone in who knows the league, knows what it is all about. He is obviously a fighter so he would be a good addition to the side.”
Porteous has made 22 appearances this season in all competitions, scoring three. The defender made his international bow with a stunning display against Ukraine in September as Scotland topped their Nations League group.
Tonight, Porteous could make his last appearance for Hibs when Celtic visit Easter Road, with boss Lee Johnson admitting he'd prefer to cash in on the stopper in the January transfer window rather than allow him to leave for free at the end of the season.
Rangers are at home to Motherwell in a full midweek card as Michael Beale hopes to continue his winning start.
