Hibs have launched an appeal against Ryan Porteous ' red card at Aberdeen on Saturday.
The centre back was sent off for a tackle from behind on Ross McCrorie, who was about to pull the trigger in front of goal.
Hibees boss Shaun Maloney felt after the game that it was the wrong decision, claiming that the 22-year-old tried to play the ball and that a yellow card would have sufficed.
The club have stuck to their guns and a fast-track tribunal has been scheduled for Wednesday, March 23 to decide on Porteous' fate.
Lewis Ferguson slammed home from the spot as the Easter Road men fell to a 3-1 defeat at Pittodrie on Saturday.
Speaking after the game, Maloney said: "For me it was incorrect, he’s gone for the ball.
"A definite penalty, but the rules are that [the referee] shouldn’t send him off. It’s disappointing because it had a big effect on the game."
Although denying a clear goalscoring opportunity carries a one-game suspension, Porteous is likely to be handed a three-game ban.
The Scottish defender has already been sent-off once this season - against Rangers - and he's picked up a retrospective three-game suspension for an incident involving Aberdeen striker Christian Ramirez in December.
Unless the appeal is successful, Porteous will miss the league games against Dundee United, Hearts and the first post-split fixture.
But in a boost to Hibs, the key man will be available to play rivals Hearts in the Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden on Saturday, April 16.
