Ryan Poles hints Bears are looking at veteran pass rushers

The Chicago Bears have overhauled their roster this offseason, especially on the defensive side of the ball, which features plenty of new faces.

Still, even after the NFL draft, the biggest position of need remains edge rusher, a group led by free-agent additions DeMarcus Walker and Rasheem Green, Trevis Gipson and Dominique Robinson.

General manager Ryan Poles hinted, in an interview with 670 the Score’s Bernstein and Holmes Show, that the Bears are exploring multiple avenues when it comes to adding a veteran pass rusher.

“We’ll see, we’ll see,” Poles said. “We’re working on it. We don’t stop working and looking at different avenues to bring players in. There are some options, potentially trade options. There’s also some guys on the street still that could potentially come in and help us.

“Maybe something will happen sooner rather than later.”

When looking at the free agent market, there are several big names still available. That includes Yannick Ngakoue, Leonard Floyd, Frank Clark and Jadeveon Clowney.

There could also be some trade options, as Poles indicated. There’s been plenty of trade chatter involving Commanders edge rushers Montez Sweat and Chase Young, especially after Washington didn’t pick up Young’s fifth-year option.

As we enter a down part of the offseason, it’s something worth monitoring — especially as Poles hinted it could happen “sooner rather than later.”
