Talk about a monster hit.
Ryan Murphy’s “Monster” will become an anthology series now that it’s been renewed for two seasons at Netflix, the streaming service announced.
The show, whose controversial debut season centered on serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, will center on “stories of other monstrous figures who have impacted society,” according to Netflix.
The real life inspirations for those future seasons have not yet been revealed to the public.
All 10 episodes of “Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” starring Evan Peters as the titular murderer, dropped on Netflix in late September. The show also stars Richard Jenkins and Molly Ringwald as Dahmer’s father and stepmother.
Among the critics of the show were families of Dahmer’s victims, as well as former Milwaukee District Attorney Michael McCann, who prosecuted Dahmer, who killed 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991.
McCann challenged the show for suggesting that local police let Dahmer’s victims slip through the cracks because they were gay or Black.
“Monster” topped Netflix’s viewership charts and “is on track to reach 1 billion hours in the coming weeks,” according to the platform.
