Ferencvaros sporting director Tamas Hajnal has left the door open for Ryan Mmaee to join Celtic this summer - despite attempts to cool speculation of a move in a fan Q&A.
Record Sport revealed earlier this summer that the 24-year-old has been scouted extensively by Celtic ahead of their return to the Champions League group stage. Ange Postecoglou is in the market for at least one forward as he aims to bolster his squad ahead of their looming title defence, but the Hungarian champions are keen to keep their star man who netted 19 goals in all competitions last season.
Mmaee is currently sidelined with an ankle ligament injury he suffered in April and is nearing the final year of his deal with Ferencvaros as he prepares to jet off to the World Cup with Morocco later this year. Hajnal insists the players focus on recovery and making his mark in Qatar this winter rather than a move.
When asked if there was any movement on Celtic's interest in Mmaee, Hajnal told Ferencvaros fan site Ulloi129: " No. He is currently recovering from his injury. We are waiting for him to help us when he is in good condition. It is almost impossible for him to leave before the World Cup in Qatar at the end of the year."
However, he admitted he couldn't completely shut the door on any potential deal this summer, adding: "At the moment, every position has the right competitive situation. Based on the composition, we can play football in different game systems. But I cannot conclusively state that there will be no more changes. There is still a lot of time until the end of the transfer window."
