Ryan Kent's Rangers disappearing act as club hero feels like he's 'battering him all the time'

Ryan Kent has been told to prepare for scrutiny off the back of another anonymous Champions League outing for Rangers.

The winger didn't get overly involved as former club Liverpool inflicted a major rout upon Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side, racking up a 7-1 thrashing. It means Rangers can't qualify for the last 16 of this competition and need positive results in their last games in Group A with Napoli and Ajax to stand a chance of qualifying for the Europa League.

Club hero Neil McCann hasn't missed with his assessment of Kent, who has been criticised this season for his lack of goals, having only scored one so far. He's told Sportsound that it was another poor night for him, starting at half-time: "I say it again and it sounds like I'm battering him all the time, but Ryan Kent can have so much more influence. We only say it as we are begging for the boy to do well.

"We aren't hoping he has a shocker. We want to see him in at the backpost and take on Joe Gomez one-versus-one."

After the goals rained, McCann added: "Ryan Kent just disappeared. There was nothing. His performance will be scrutinised.

"But the whole second 45 minutes, I think Giovanni will make the whole squad watch that. It has to be analysed. A second half destruction like that, you need to see where it went wrong."
