Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack revealed he has yet to enter negotiations over a new contract as his current deal continues to run down with no word on extending his stay in Govan.
The Light Blues signed Jack from Aberdeen in 2017 on a free transfer, with the boyhood Light Blues fan signing a three-year-deal in Glasgow in what he described as an "honour and a privilege". He has played 161 games, won two trophies and 13 caps since then and the Dons academy graduate is still on the books under Gio van Bronckhorst, although game time has become limited for the Granite City born star.
Making just 22 appearances last season, Jack has started to come into the team again this term alongside John Lundstram, Steven Davis, Glen Kamara and Scott Arfield in the central midfield berths under the Dutch boss. However, with just nine months left on his contract and no sign of renegotiation, the Scotland international remains unfazed by his current situation - stating "whatever happens, will happen".
“No I’ve not (had contract talks). Nothing has been spoken about to myself of my agent," Jack admitted. "Right now it’s just about focusing on getting a good run in the team, putting a good run together and consistently playing well. Whatever happens on the back of that will happen. I feel good. I picked up and injury in cup final and that put me out of the Scotland summer camp and then pre-season was a bit slower for me but I feel I’m up and running now and hopefully I can start showing that with performances."
Rangers' trip to the capital comes at a time with the hosts on a run of two wins in a row, without conceding in both ties. This is as resolute a Jambos team as there has been for quite some time; with their strong start last season being mirrored this season when you factor in their continental endeavours.
But Jack knows that despite the challenge, Rangers overturning their poor form with a second consecutive win in the top-flight could set them up for future success. He said: "It’s three points that are at stake but we know if we can get on a consistent run it will take us to where we want to be.
“It’s always hard at Tynecastle. They’re a good side and always right up for it so we will have to match that. But on the flip side, if we show our ability and what we’re good at, I’m sure we will have a good afternoon. Whatever way Hearts set up we’re just going to focus on ourselves.
“The ability we have is at a high standard. We can play a very exciting game if it clicks on the day. It’s a good game to come back and get the three points. We’ve had meetings, players and staff. We need to keep improving. The demands are really high and we have to meet those demands. We’ve had the international break to reflect and refocus.”
