Ryan Hardie lost for words after Plymouth pull off FA Cup shock to crush Liverpool quadruple dreams

Match-winner: Ryan Hardie - (ITV)

Ryan Hardie did not know what to say after helping Plymouth secure a famous FA Cup win over Liverpool.

Plymouth, who currently sit bottom of the Championship, beat the Premier League leaders at Home Park on Sunday afternoon thanks to Hardie’s second half goal.

The hosts had to ride their luck in the closing stages as Liverpool searched for an equaliser.

James McConnell, perhaps should have sent the tie into extra-time as he sliced an effort wide with the goal gaping.

Though Conor Hazard performed some goalkeeping heroics late on as he kept out efforts from Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez before holding a header from Caoimhin Kelleher in what was the last action of the game.

As the final whistle blew, Home Park erupted as the Plymouth players celebrated with their supporters after pulling off a huge FA Cup shock and crushing Liverpool’s dreams of winning the quadruple.

Speaking after the game, Hardie said: "We all came here today with a dream and we have done it. I don’t know what to say."

Hardie scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot, banishing memories of his miss four years ago against Chelsea.

“There is obviously a lot of pressure,” he told ITV. “It is about picking your side, and I committed to it."

Hardie’s teammate, Callum Wright revealed it was his dream to face the club he supports and heaped praise on the defensive effort of every single player.

“Insane. A dream come true to play them and beat them,” he said. “Solid. The gaffer has brought them [Nikola Katic and Maksym Talovierov] in to strengthen us until the end of the season and they are doing that.

“I started to get nervous, but as soon as we were 1-0 up we had to stick with it."
