Ryan Gosling wears t-shirt featuring Doctor Who's Ncuti Gatwa as stars team up for Barbie

Ncuti Gatwa has taken the world by storm and even has some famous fans, including co-star Ryan Gosling.

The Hollywood A-lister has been spotted sporting a Doctor Who t-shirt with the Sex Education actor's face on it.

The Rwandan-born Scots actor will take on the iconic Time Lord role in 2023 after Jodie Whitaker's final episode airs, as iconic showrunner Russell T Davies returns to the writing room. Davies was behind the revival of the iconic sci-fi series back in 2005 with Christopher Eccleston, Billie Piper and David Tennant.

Ncuti, 29. is working with Drive star Ryan on the highly anticipated Barbie movie alongside Margot Robbie, Will Ferrell, Emma Mackey, Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon and Scots actress Sharon Rooney.

Gatwa's Barbie co-star paid tribute to his upcoming role by wearing Doctor Who with the actor's face on it. Upon seeing Gosling in the shirt, writer Davies took to social media and threatened to 'sue' the actor. Davies captioned the post: "This is, genuinely, Ryan Gosling wearing a t-shirt of Ncuti Gatwa as Doctor Who. We’re suing him, of course. Illegal merch #rulesarerules ". Gatwa, on the other hand, was absolutely living for the moment and shared a photo of ‘King’ Ryan donning the T-shirt, "Dolls supporting Doctors," he wrote. "As if I couldn’t love him anymore."

On the Bafta red carpet, Gatwa opened up on the emotional process and shared his relief that he no longer had to keep it a secret. "I woke up crying, and then I was dancing, but I’m glad it’s finally out and I don’t have to keep it a secret anymore, because I’m terrible,’ he said. "There aren’t quite the words to describe how I’m feeling," he said of his new role. "A mix of deeply honoured, beyond excited and of course a little bit scared. This role and show means so much to so many around the world, including myself, and each one of my incredibly talented predecessors has handled that unique responsibility and privilege with the utmost care."

The Sex Education star found out he got the role while on set for Barbie, and managed to keep the news secret from his co-stars for two whole months. After the news was made public, his co-star Simu Lui revealed that he didn't let slip any information on his new role. Lui said: “[He] didn’t tell anyone a thing, and then all of a sudden over the weekend he was announced. We came to work on Monday we were like ‘Dude, how long have you been holding this in for?’ And he’s like, ‘Two months.'”

“I would have combusted,” Liu laughed, adding that the “Doctor Who” revelation had resulted in Gatwa having to hire protection. “He had to get security in and around not only his place of residence, but the places of residence of his entire family.”
