Ryan Gosling's upcoming movie, The Fall Guy, features a dog co-star that holds personal significance for the actor. During a Q&A session following the movie's premiere at SXSW, Gosling and director David Leitch revealed that the dog character in the film was inspired by Gosling's partner Eva Mendes' late pet, a Belgian Malinois named Hugo who only responded to commands in French.
In the movie, Gosling's character Colt befriends a dog named Jean Claude while on a mission to find a missing action movie star. The dog, portrayed by two female Kelpies, adds an interesting dynamic to the action scenes in the film, according to Leitch.
Gosling and Mendes, who have been together since meeting on the set of a movie in 2012, share a special bond over their love for animals. Mendes once described Hugo as a special presence in her life, emphasizing the lasting impact he had on her.
The Fall Guy also stars Emily Blunt, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Hannah Waddingham, Winston Duke, and Stephanie Hsu. The film, inspired by a 1980s television series of the same name, is set to hit theaters on May 3.
