Ryan Gosling Regrets 'La La Hand' Moment In La La Land

Ryan Gosling recently shared a moment from the making of the 2016 film La La Land that still lingers in his memory. In an interview for WSJ Magazine's The One video series, the actor expressed his regret over a particular dance sequence with co-star Emma Stone that ended up on the movie's promotional poster. Gosling revealed that he wished he could reshoot the scene due to what he referred to as his 'La La Hand.'

During the interview, Gosling explained that there was a specific moment in the dance sequence where he and Stone were supposed to have their hands up. However, he decided to position his hand differently, with his wrist slanting down compared to Stone's hand. This deviation from the expected hand placement was something that Gosling now views as a misstep, as it affected the overall energy of the scene.

Despite being advised by others that his hand positioning was not ideal, Gosling persisted with his choice at the time. Looking back on the experience, he admitted that he now sees the error in his decision and wishes he had followed the original instructions for the scene.

Gosling humorously referred to his hand positioning as 'La La Hand,' a term he coined to describe his perceived mistake. Reflecting on his dance background, Gosling mentioned that he initially believed it would benefit him in portraying the character of Sebastian in La La Land. However, he humorously acknowledged that his performance did not live up to his expectations, jokingly referring to himself as 'hamburger-hands Gosling.'

Despite his self-criticism, Gosling's portrayal of Sebastian in La La Land earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Actor. The film itself went on to win six Oscars that year, solidifying its place as a critical and commercial success.
