De La Hoya must be pulling out his hair because Ryan Garcia keeps making outrageous remarks to disparage his promoter. The most recent is that, despite the fight being signed, sealed, and made public, Garcia does not wish to face Devin Haney in New York.
Next week is the press tour, but Garcia(24-1, 20KOs) still amazes his fans by going after other fighters and assuring them that Haney is safe.
De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions have millions of dollars at stake. Their main event of the year will be Haney vs. Garcia. Garcia, a 25-year old American professional boxer, doesn’t appear committed to making it so, though.
In a recent outburst, Garcia requested a cheque from UFC president Dana White so he could fight Sean O’Malley. The decision undoubtedly had boxing fans, media, and even De La Hoya scratching their heads in shock.
“The fact you beef with actually successful people shows you are only relevant bc you talk about other people. I’d beat your ass for talking shit Billie Ellish. Imagine if I was broke and blew thru 45M with no investments. Couldn’t be me,” said Garcia in a post on X.
Garcia’s lack of laser light in a world title fight against a formidable opponent ranked in the top five of the Pound for Pound beggars belief. The bout is signed and finalized. Garcia’s chances of commanding those enormous pay outside of the ring could be seriously damaged by Haney.
Garcia, who was accused of quitting when “Tank” stopped him, needs to perform better than he did against Gervonta Davis in April of last year.
He still disagrees with the Haney fight at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, but he hasn’t yet responded to strange remarks made about it. Garcia might yet decide to cancel the entire thing. Well, it wouldn’t be anything unlike him.
“Hilarious, damn bro for real bro. How do people think I do drugs? I have tested randomly. I’m just me. People wish I do drugs for an excuse. I’ve only in my life have drank and smoked weed. Cry me a river,” said Garcia in response to inquiries about his mental state.
