Ryan Edwards LOSES Dundee United red card appeal as captain forced out of Scottish Cup and league showdowns

Dundee United have lost their appeal against Ryan Edwards' red card against Hearts.

The skipper was sent for an early bath for a high challenge on Andy Halliday in United's 3-1 defeat at Tynecastle. Nick Walsh initially waved play on but after a VAR review he deemed it to be worthy of a straight red. United confirmed their intention to appeal the red card, which carried an instant two-game ban, but they have now announced they have lost the appeal with Edwards set to miss their Scottish Cup clash with Kilmarnock this weekend and their subsequent league game with St Johnstone.

A club statement after Wednesday's hearing reads: "Dundee United can confirm the appeal against the red card shown to Ryan Edwards during Saturday's cinch Premiership match against Heart of Midlothian has been dismissed. The defender will serve a two-match suspension, which includes this weekend's clash with Kilmarnock in the Scottish Cup. The club will make no further comment at this time."
