Former Leeds United forward Ryan Edmondson is raring to get to work following his summer move to Carlisle United. Edmondson penned a two-year deal with Carlisle last week, signing for them on a free transfer. The 21-year-old arrived at Elland Road from York City in 2017 but only made two senior appearances.
He spent the majority of his Leeds career away on loan, featuring for Aberdeen, Northampton Town, Fleetwood Town and Port Vale before departing the Whites this summer. His spell at Port Vale during the second half of the season saw him help the Valiants to promotion from League Two last term.
And the striker believes his time spent away from Leeds on loan will stand him in good stead ahead of Carlisle's upcoming campaign in League Two.
"I think it helps a lot for a young lad in this league to have done that,” Edmondson told the club's official website.
"I’ve had that experience of playing men’s football recently and that’s really good. I had a great season last season with Port Vale, and we were successful. Hopefully we can do the same again this year."
Edmondson's move to Brunton Park sees him reunited with his former England U-19 coach Paul Simpson, who is in charge at Carlisle United.
And similar to how his loan experiences have helped him adapt to the rigours of the Football League, Edmondson also believes his relationship with Simpson will help to bring the best out of him.
"I’ve worked with Simmo previously so we’ve had that relationship together," Edmondson said. "He’s been my manager before and I know he suits my playing style quite well.
"I know what happened here last season and I think we’ve got a point to prove. It probably wasn’t the best, they didn’t perform to the best of their ability, but I think this season we can really put that right. We have to lay our stamp down early."
